It Was Just A Look

“Maybe there was something more, maybe it was just a look”

In May I was in Los Angeles for a film festival called Dances With Films which took place at the TCL Chinese Theatre. We were there premiering a movie I was a producer for called “The Aftermath” directed by Tim McCann.

The festival had partnered with Blackmagic Design to do a 48 hour short film competition in which six people were chosen to participate. We were all loaned a Blackmagic Ursa to shoot with. There were no rules other than the fact that you had 24 hours to shoot and another 24 hours to edit . The content could be whatever you wanted but the final must be less than three minutes. During the black magic seminar I met Jenny and Marcus, a filmmaking duo from Sweden, and we agreed to help each other. Unfortunately for them they were not accepted into the challenge so they became actors in my short.

The idea was to explore that moment when you walk past a complete stranger and you happen to make eye contact. Every now and then you find yourself considering what the possibilities of that “look” could be. Maybe there’s a chance at something more, or maybe it was just a look.

We shot the whole thing in about three hours at the Dolby theater in Hollywood. I edited the following day for a couple of hours, submitted the final, and then flew home before the festival was over. A few days later I received a message from a friend during closing ceremonies telling me that our video had in fact won the competition. Needless to say I was very excited to have been made winner but eve more so grateful to have been able to work with such interesting and talented people as Jenny Lampa and Marcus Ovnell.

They where their premiering their film “The Break In” which is still making its rounds in the film festival circuit but looks like an awesome movie. Keep an eye out for their film and check out their stuff at
